HSL New Grip Scheme
The Health & Safety Laboratory operates as the HSE’s Laboratory and has developed a new test scheme to assess the slip resistance of footwear used in the workplace.  The GRIP scheme is the HSL’s answer to the major issue of slips, trips and falls contributing to 57% of all major injuries reportable under RIDDOR (as published by HSE in Oct 2014). The GRIP scheme has 5 ratings (1-5 stars) for footwear which pass.  1-3 star ratings require an increasing level of grip on water surfaces. 4 and 5 star footwear also has to achieve a particular level of grip with glycerol.
